With recreational marijuana sales coming to California in 2018, it looks like one of the state’s largest cities is pretty much ready to go.
San Francisco lawmakers approved legislation on Tuesday that lays out how recreational weed can be sold in the city, and it would allow for sales to start on January 5.
All that’s left is for San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee to sign the legislation. It states that there does not have to be a large distance between cannabis shops and schools, considering how dense the city is, by limiting the distance required to 600 feet. It rejected recommendations from some residents that would have made it so neighborhoods could ban pot shops or limit the number allowed in their community. Marijuana advocates are looking at this as a major win.
There are currently already 40 medical marijuana dispensaries that will be able to sell recreational marijuana in the city when sales start in January. That number will surely go up as the year progresses.
