Over 5,700 attendees, exhibitors, and high-profile cannabis industry speakers converged from across the country at the second-annual event.
PITTSBURGH – (April 19, 2018) The World Medical Cannabis Conference & Expo (WMCCExpo) successfully concluded its second-annual show with record-breaking attendance at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, in Pittsburgh.
The three-day expo drew over 5,700 attendees and 175 exhibitors, who showcased the latest in cannabis products, design, and technology throughout the 45,000 square-foot exhibit space.
“We really wanted to make the WMCCExpo an inviting event for the community and the turnout exceeded our expectations,” stated Melonie Kotchey, CEO of Compassionate Certification Centers, a medical cannabis healthcare network and host of the event.
The 420 Games, a series of active events promoting a healthy cannabis lifestyle, kicked off the WMCC Expo with a 4.2 mile fun run/walk. Free and open to the public, this was the first time the 420 Games held an event east of the Mississippi.
The much-anticipated event also featured a surprise flash mob. Other highlights included a riverboat fundraiser cruise. Proceeds raised money for the Disabled American Veterans and Make a Wish Foundations.
New this year were onsite medical cannabis patient evaluations through Compassionate Certification Centers, host of the WMCCExpo. The Pittsburgh-based company has locations throughout the state.
More than 2,000 patients from Compassionate Certification Centers attended the conference. They were able to speak with healthcare providers, pick up educational resources, and buy CBD products.
Education was a resounding theme throughout the large-scale event. The WMCCExpo hosted more than one hundred high-profile cannabis experts from across the country and around the globe.
There were more than 30 in-depth presentations with leading industry professionals, as well as ten continued education courses for healthcare providers, public accountants, and attorneys.
Hundreds of cannabis legal experts, as well as lawyers looking to expand their practice, attended a networking business breakfast and participated in the comprehensive CLE coursework.
Renowned medical professionals examined the future of cannabis healthcare, including: PTSD researcher Dr. Sue Sisley; Compassionate Certification Centers CMO Dr. Bryan Doner; and forensic scientist Dr. Cyril Wecht.
Former professional athletes discussed the medicinal benefits of cannabis in sports. The well-attended panel featured: Super Bowl winner Marvin Washington; NFL Eagles player Eben Britton; NHL Flyers player Riley Cote; and undefeated UFL Middleweight champion Frank Shamrock.
Expo host, Compassionate Certification Centers, will continue to host educational events throughout the year with plans to open 25 medical cannabis offices by December 2018.
Currently, Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana program has registered 30,413 people, and nearly 12,000 certified patients have purchased identification cards.
