While at Ford City, he lettered in three sports and helped his baseball team win a state championship. During Gus’ junior year, he led the football team to the playoffs for the first time in school history. Gus graduated in 1989.

Gus went on to receive a football scholarship to the University of Tulsa where he graduated in 1994 with a degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

Drafted in the 7th round by the Washington Redskins, Gus went on to play with 7 different NFL teams, the Washington Redskins, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, Cincinnati Bengals, Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins, St. Louis Rams and Minnesota Vikings. He made a Pro Bowl appearance after the 1996 season while playing with the Redskins. After a 15-year career in the NFL, Gus retired as a Minnesota Viking in 2008.

After retirement, Gus went on to coach at John Burroughs School from 2010-2013. He worked as an assistant before taking over as head coach in 2011. Upon moving back to Western Pennsylvania, Gus worked as a coach for the Pittsburgh Central Catholic Vikings from 2013 through 2016.

Since leaving the world of coaching in 2016, Gus has partnered with two companies. The first, 4VIEW, has developed an innovative stabilized camera that can fit on any facemask or the bill of a baseball hat.

The second company, RC21X has developed a computer program and a user friendly app that monitors brain health and wellness. The mobile app, called Roberto, has been named one of the top 10 apps of 2017 by phonedog.com. After 15 years in the NFL, and raising three children who play contact sports, Gus is very passionate about people taking care of their brain health. Roberto puts cutting edge technology in the palm of your hand and allows the user to take charge of their own brain health and wellness.

With RC21X: Gus serves as President of Business Development for RC21X, a Coraopolis. PA-based company that has developed cloud-based tools (RC21X for clinical applications and the Roberto App for consumers) for monitoring brain performance. Gus has been instrumental in getting the word out about the company’s platforms.

His latest initiative is directing business development for the Brain Readiness Program. The program is an innovative add-on to corporate safety programs and aims to reduce workplace accidents and workers’ comp costs.

He also is instrumental in other programs of the Roberto App:

  • MyBrain 365 – A package that allows consumers to continually monitor their brain health. It provides objective performance data in minutes and encourages users to be more proactive and to make better decisions to benefit their brain.
  • The Roberto Brain Health Challenge – This school-based program encourages students to check in on their brain performance with the Roberto App. Students compete against their peers and students from other schools for scholarship awards and other prizes.
